Dr Corlie Giliomee is a senior lecturer in the Department of Social Work and Criminology at the University of Pretoria, where she has been working for the last sixteen years. Her academic and research interests focus on human rights education, human rights, social justice, social work education, social development and homelessness. From June 2018 until September 2023 Corlie has been serving as the treasurer of the Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa (ASSWA) and has been standing in as treasurer since January 2024 as the position had not been filled yet. She has been on the executive committee of the University and College Consortium for Human Rights Education (UCCHRE) since 2019. Currently she is leading an international comparative research study involving nine universities across Africa, Europe and Australia on exploring students’ experiences of human rights education in social work. She has a passion and vision for the development and promotion of social work education in Africa and is passionate about advancing human rights education and social work education in Africa.
