DR. WILKINS NDEGE MUHINGI (PhD) Regional Representative (East Africa), ASSWA
Dr. Wilkins Ndege Muhingi is a Medical Social Work Lecturer and Examination Coordinator at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in the College of Health Sciences, School of Medicine, and Department of Rehabilitative Sciences.
He holds a Ph.D. in Social Work from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, an MSc. in Social Work (Medical Social Work), and a BSc. in Social Work and Healthcare (Medical Social Work) both from St Elizabeth University (Slovak Republic, Bratislava).
Dr. Muhingi also serves as a Research Ethics Committee Board Member, Board Member of Stahili Foundation Kenya, and a Board Member and a reviewer for various reputable journals and has authored several articles in various reputable, high-impact factor International Peer Reviewed Journals. His publications have attracted wide readership and citations over the years all found on the Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Researchgate. He has presented several papers at international conferences on various local and international topics in different countries.
He is an accomplished researcher in matters of Children, having served as a Principal investigator for research on Domestic Workers which was carried out by Makerere University and PAC University and Online Child Abuse as his PhD research. He received outstanding research output accolades in 2019, 2021, and 2022 in research and was awarded for having been the Best Lecturer in Community Development at PAC University in 2022.
Dr. Muhingi has received research and publication training organized by the University of Washington, University of Nairobi, University of Malawi College of Medicine, and St. Paul’s University courtesy of ACEPHEM and RTCI. He can train, mentor, and guide students and early scholars in the same. Dr. Muhingi represented the International Federation of Social Workers during the first UN Habitat Assembly in Nairobi, in 2019. He is an active member of the International Association of Schools of Social Work and the Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa where he is the East Africa Region Representative, a member of Kenya Medical Social Workers Association, Kenya Psychiatric Association, and Association of Social Work Educators in Kenya.
He is part of the Team spearheading Social Work legislation and Regulation and Organising the forthcoming Global Social Work Conference in 2026 in Kenya. He is a consultant in child safeguarding and protection in terms of developing training curricula, training trainers of trainers, and facilitating in seminars and workshops among other engagements. He has a keen interest in Child safeguarding and protection, Health, Education, disability, rehabilitation, and Assistive technology.
