Social workers comprise the core Social service force.
With increasing demand for Social Work across the East African Region, the Inter University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) through collaboration with Social Work Academics and Practitioners from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo met in July 2023 to discuss benchmarks for standardizing Social Work education within the EAC.
The process of the benchmarks began with identification of key experts in Social Work, which was followed by establishment of a Technical working group through online and physical meetings, together with a presentation of the global standards of Social Work by the President of IASSW and development of an online tool for stakeholders and finally online validation from all stakeholders.
These benchmarks hope to serve as minimum standards across the region as well as promote mobility within the region of Social Work students, practitioners and academics.
